WEEK 6 RECAP

Six weeks down, fellas! We are truly entering the PRIME of sports season, and I could not be more excited. The NBA starts today, the World Series starts this week, college football is heating up (Jeremiah Smith, my glorious king), and the NFL season is in full swing.

Breakfast of Champions continues to see different teams figure out whether they’re contenders or pretenders this season, and this week was no different. Let’s jump in and see what happened around the league, starting with none other than myself…

Biggest Tank on the Block Has Life

After six weeks of football, the leader of the Tank Commanders was supposed to drop to 0-6 with another absolute stinker of a we…oh, wait. Sorry, I’m getting breaking news put on my desk.

It seems the league script has been changed at the last second, and apparently Love on the Spectrum actually WON A WEEK??

In unprecedented fashion, the biggest tanker on the battlefield managed to scrap together a win this week, and boy, was it a big one! With a 122-106 victory over Sean’s My Balls McKees, Love on the Spectrum will move to a terrifying 1-5. Watch out.

In a week where Jeremiyah Love didn’t play and I was starting Tyler Goodson (who?), the rest of my team finally showed out the way I honestly thought they could before the season started. Jayden Daniels continues to play great football when he’s healthy. Ashton Jeanty, although he’s been underwhelming relative to his talent level, is consistently producing at a high level. TRAVIS HUNTER SCORED A TOUCHDOWN (oh shit, this could actually be a story). Ben Johnson remembered that Colston Loveland is an elite talent and has been involving him way more. And Michael Mayer is somehow the starting TE for the Raiders (Brock Bowers is literally a WR).

A couple of good, funny, and depressing stats about my season so far:

I have the lowest Max PF by HUNDREDS of points. Like, I haven’t even been close to winning a week yet. In Weeks 1–5, not only did I go 0-5, but I was the lowest-scoring team every single time. There wasn’t a single possible matchup I could have won until this week. Then, in Week 6, everything changed. With 122 points, I outscored TEN of you guys.

The nine of you who aren’t Sean better be thanking your lucky stars that you weren’t the ones to give the biggest tank east of the Mississippi his first win of the season.

Now, does this mean my team is good? Hell nah, good luck catching me. This feels like that Chris Paul meme, but I will celebrate the wins as they come!

Goes without saying, but Sean has had a brutal couple of weeks. Last week, if you remember, Sean got eliminated from Survivor and started realizing his team might be fraudulent this season. This week, he lost Jalen Hurts (which is genuinely scary) and is actively looking to pawn off Tanner McKee, whom he spent $32 in FAAB to acquire. Sean is honestly doing his best trying to maximize his team’s value, so I don’t want this to sound like I’m dogging him. He is one of the leagues most active members and I am loving the activity from him. I have full faith that eventually he will lead his team back to glory, but he has had a rough couple of weeks, without a doubt.

Pretender Transformed into a Contender

Alright, alright, Fred. Your team is cooking, and I can’t deny it anymore.

After another week of being the highest-scoring team, I can no longer sleep on your squad. Isaiah Likely has been on a tear this season, currently ranking as the #1 TE. Shoutout to the Giants - somehow, they’ve managed to support both Likely and Nabers as amazing fantasy options despite the QB woes. On top of that, Swift is really good. Zay Flowers is really good. Javonte is really good. And Kirk Cousins continues to ball out.

Like I’ve said in the past, I might be a tough critic, but I’m a fair one. Fred, your team is really good, and I have no choice but to push you up into true contender territory in our next Power Rankings update.

With that said, I still have questions about the longevity of your QB room…But that’s a problem for a future Fred to figure out. Right now, enjoy the wins, and I sincerely apologize for not believing in your team sooner. You have made some great trades and put yourself into a nice position to win this season!

Oh, The Mighty Have Fallen

Julian has officially been dethroned as not only our last remaining undefeated team, but also the #1 seed on Sleeper. He took a tough loss this week, BARELY falling to Coleman 120-118. This also makes Coleman our Weekly Challenge winner for the narrowest margin of victory. It’s hard to win when Bijan scores a whopping 6 points. Also, Hampton is so cooked, and I’m honestly shocked about it. Really strange things going on down in LA, and it unfortunately led directly to Julian taking his first L.

So, who took over the #1 seed, you might be asking? Well, it’s none other than the team with only ONE STARTING QB: Sandy Nic.

Sandy has been one of the biggest stories of the season, redefining what it means to play in a Superflex league. He just keeps winning, and now he has the highest PF in the league. This man literally started DARREN WALLER in his Superflex spot this week, got zero points out of him, and STILL took home a big W. I mean, what the fuck are we even doing here?

Kenneth Walker is just insane, honestly. Matthew Golden continues to have a serious breakout season, Chuba is a top-12 RB, and Omar Cooper is back from injury and looked great this week. Justin Jefferson and CeeDee Lamb anchor his WR room. Just a really good team all around. Sandy, you are officially the team to beat!

Sandy took down Tiny Meat Gang this week, but despite the loss, Spencer’s team has also been cooking all season. I had a great weekend visiting the San Diego contingent of this league, and one thing that came up was that I haven’t given Spencer’s team enough love. He’s right.

Spencer’s QBs have all dramatically overachieved this year (remember, I said in the preseason that this would need to happen). Jordan Love, Bryce Young, and CJ Stroud have all been top-10 QBs. Drake London has been amazing after a rocky start, and Ja’Marr Chase is Ja’Marr Chase. Spencer sits at 4-2 despite his RB1, Breece Hall, going down with an injury as well. This is a serious squad, especially if they can get back to full health down the stretch.

Shoutout, Spence!

Quick Hits

  • Nate didn’t set a lineup and still won. Respect for calling yourself out in the group chat, but beating Jake Carter with an incomplete lineup is nasty work. Things are looking grim for Jake!

  • Jacob nearly pulled off a huge upset against Conner, losing by just nine points. Conner really needed a win this week, and the young guys made him sweat.

  • Graham continues to slide, now losing three straight after a 3-0 start. I really jinxed him. I think I am some sort of fantasy bounty hunter. If the playoffs started today, Graham would be the wildcard, which is a big slip from overall #1 just a few weeks ago!

  • The tank race is getting interesting. Sean, Vance, and Jacob are all threatening to make this a real competition. There’s a legitimate chance I don’t end up with the first pick despite being comfortably in the driver’s seat right now,  especially if JD and Loveland keep balling. Jordyn Tyson comes back soon as well.

  • Jake Carter has been eliminated from Survivor after only scoring 83 points this week. Oooooooft. Might be time to tear it down and join the tank race!

Closing Thoughts

Fred is forcing me to eat my words, Sandy is somehow running a Superflex team with one QB, Julian IS mortal, Graham is spiraling, and I’ve officially won a game. The season is heating up!!

Enjoy the opening of the NBA season, and see y’all next week!
